To play on President Reagan’s famous phrase to former Soviet Union leader Mikhail_Gorbachev, the need to address border security cannot be understated. A recent poll by Rasmussen Reports, one of America’s leading polling agencies, indicates the American people (you) are in favor (56-to-31) of building a 2,000-mile security fence to protect the United States’ border with Mexico.

HR 4987, the Fence-by-a-Certain-Date bill will require that our country build a secure double fence across the US-Mexico border. Regardless of one’s individual stance on illegal immigration, the ocean of illegal immigrants provide cover and an environment in which terrorists can hide. An American President would be willing to fight for the sovereignty our nation and the safety of its citizens. The first task of an American’s president’s defense plan should include support and authorization to build our security fence

This week the Department of Homeland Security is cutting its losses on a $20 million “Virtual Fence” that detected but a small fraction of the estimated number of illegal immigrants. High-tech has its place, but fences and walls have been used by all nations with great effect. For goodness sake, if the prophet Nehemiah could build one-and-a-half miles of stone wall twenty feet high and nine feet thick around the city of Jerusalem in 52 days, how long would it take motivated American entrepreneurs and local business owners in the border states to protect its citizens from terrorist attacks.

My fellow Americans, call or fax your congressman and vote for a presidential candidate willing to protect his people. A candidate that will “Build This Wall.”
