America, Where is Your Fury?
My fellow Americans, What in the world is going on with our incumbent governing authorities and why are you not mad, nay, furious, at how the cultural and political elite are taking away your money, your freedoms, and your rights as an American Citizen away from you one by one by one? You, if you are an American citizen, should be outraged at what the people who are supposed to be representing you, are doing to further their own political, economic, or social agendas and not the will of the people.
Can it be that you are simply not aware of what is going on? Well, that’s why blogs like this, Talk Radio, and the New Media of the Internet are so popular and why newspapers, magazines, television, and other medium of the leftist politicos are going the way of the papyrus scroll: it allows the average citizen to be informed as to what’s going on, without being filtered through a liberal sieve, such as how our nation is losing its American identity (See Article). Can it be that “It doesn’t hurt enough?” Well, like the frog in cold water, he’s not likely to jump out of the pot if you hurt him just a little at a time (See Article)… “What’s a 25-cent tax going to hurt?” when you don’t take into account the 387 other 25-cent taxes that are imposed year after year after YEAR without abatement. Can it be that you have the impression of “Hey, that can’t really be happening… This is America, after all.” The German populace, to their embarrassment, let the Nazi war machine steam over its own citizens ad much of Europe, with that very mentality.
The lament of history, is that it proves people, especially those in power, do not study it because one would think they had learned from its failures.
My fellow Americans, This is just a taste of what is going on today. Understand their impact on your family, your rights as an American, your financial security and prosperity, and act! Call your congressmen (Click Here), your local political authorities, the White House, and remind them that they work for you; that they have sworn an oath to uphold the Constitution of the United States of America; that you, as an American voter, will vote for the candidate who represents them, and not a special interest group.
Mortgage Bailouts:
Massachusetts Democrat Barney Frank is pushing a bill that will put taxpayers on the hook for up to $300 BILLION in bad mortgages. (See the bill) Here’s the scoop: There are people across America who unwisely bought houses they couldn’t afford but bought them anyway. There were lenders who wrote mortgages to people they knew couldn’t afford the mortgage but wrote them anyway.
Now when they default on the mortgage, the government takes over the mortgage. (That’s you and me!) Now if the borrower defaults, you and I (hopefully the responsible ones) are stuck with the bill. So while hard working, responsible Americans faithfully pay their mortgages each month, the ones who made bad decisions get a “Get Out Of Foreclosure Free” card courtesy of John & Jane taxpayer.
…Are you mad yet?
The Warner-Lieberman Climate Security Act:
The Senate will be debating a bill that will cost the American Taxpayers trillions, that’s TRILLIONS, of dollars, (can you say, $10,000,000,000,000.00 TEN TRILLION) for an environmental act that will have no, can you say, NO impact on greenhouse emissions, will cripple the economy (that’s your American Lifestyle you hear flushing away) and with absolutely NO suggestion as to how to achieve their environmental “goals”. Welcome to Washington! Read the Bill HERE and read a dose of reality from The Cato Institute HERE.
…Are you mad yet?
The Farm Bill:
Politicians on both sides of the fence, Republicans and Democrats alike, have passed another $300 BILLION pork-laden farm bill. (Read more HERE) Why do they want to give $300 BILLION dollars to farmers who already earn up to $1.5 million in personal income, when farm income is at an all time high? Why doesn’t Congress then want to give $300B to Exxon, another company making record-profits (at least in dollar value)? And tell us, dear Congressman, why in the world does this bill include tax breaks for millionaire owners of race horses?
…Are you mad yet?
The “Emergency” War Funding Bill:
The Democrats have tried to pull another $121 BILLION out of the pockets of Americans (See Article) and spends it on, guess what? … spinach growers, peanut storage, citrus farmers, $100 MILLION for political conventions, $13 million for “ewe replacement and retention,” $24 million for sugar beet farmers, $95 million for dairy producers, insect control in Nevada, $3.5 Million for the US Capitol tour-guide program, and to top it all off: Christmas Trees. I’m not making this up!
I’m not the brightest bulb on the Christmas tree, but what in the world are you doing, senator, making the American Taxpayer pay for these, and what are you doing hiding “ewe replacement” among all the other riff-raff in a war funding bill? Are you out of your minds??? Oh, and the money for the troops? It’s for an expanded GI Bill and benefits program. No bullets. No armor. No salary. Just Social government-dependence programs. Time and time again, Democrats prove they will “support the troops” as long as they’re not fighting. Want to end the war? Want to bring them home? Here’s a wake up call: Give our fighting men what they need to fight their battle so they can come home victorious!
…Are you mad yet?
Are you? Are you mad? Are you furious? I’ve outlined just four items in recent news, just four, and that’s almost $11 TRILLION you have already been, or soon will be, required to pay out of your money, your Constitutional freedoms, and your economic opportunity and security as is the right of all Americans and their children.
Now take that number, and use your imagination for a second, and tack on:
Ethanol subsidies, rising fuel prices, rising food prices, national healthcare, Social Security, carbon tax credits, global warming, ANWAR, cap-and-trade, 55-MPH national speed limits, energy rationing, illegal immigration costs, subsidies on windfarms, solar, refusal to access our own national treasures: energy on our own soil.
The list goes on, and on, and ON, and ON, America. If you’re not as angry with our leaders reading this as much as I have been writing this, well… as the saying goes, “You’ll get the government you deserve.”
America, you are not called to vote for the lesser of three evils. You are called to vote your conscience for the country. What used to be known as “The American Way” is disappearing. We are at a crossroads. You are at a crossroads. None of the three candidates stand for American principles as we know them. The shame of the Republican Party is that is now seeks to capture votes than stand on principles. You must find, and demand, an American President - one with American values of individual freedom and opportunity, and not growth of government whose goal is to feed the mob with bread and circuses.
It’s been a hard week watching the news, listening and seeing the effect of our inaction. Get mad, Get furious, and let the Republican party, the Democratic party, and anyone seeking office, that we are looking for, an American President.
Thanks for listening.

First, grammar check your opening paragraph. Second, America is not the greatest nation in the world. Have you lived anywhere else for a substantial period of time to justify this claim? Third, I am a conservative that is ashamed to be sharing an ideology with somebody like you.

AMEN!
Comment by Anthony Navarro on 16 July 2008:
Hey Chris and John, Thank you for your comments!
While I *do* admit that Chris’s comment is succinct: a simple “Amen”, most practical Americans would agree with John in terms of the points I brought up above in “America, Where is Your Fury,” - a hearty “Amen” will do.
I have to ask John a few questions, and John, these are honest questions: I am not being critical, but would like to ask in a civil manner, questions related to your three points:
First, though I’ll be the first to say I’m not the brightest bulb in the toolbox, I can’t find anything grammatically wrong with my opening paragraph (though one can criticize it as a run-on sentence). Some people don’t like long complex sentences that take time to read. I do
Kinda like reading the Bible; it requires some thinking.
Second, you claim that America is not the greatest nation in the world. Obviously, I beg to differ, but I ask by what criteria do you say we are not?
- Do we have too many newspapers and television stations (and blogs, like this?) disseminating information (if it can be called that) freely to its populace?
- To we have too many religious freedoms? Should we imprison, torture, or murder people who have a worldview different from the authorities like many other nations?
- Do we have more poverty, disease, infant mortality, and a lower lifespan than other countries because of poor or nonexistent healthcare?
- Do people in other countries have better opportunities to raise their standards of living with an idea, or hard work ethic?
- Does America not tax their citizens enough to give the government enough power to tell its citizens what they can do, when they can do it, and with whom they can do it with?
And yes, between my wife and I we have traveled to Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Latin America, Scandinavia, and our neighbors in Canada and Mexico. And, I can tell you that the poorest of Americans have a standard of living greater than 90% of the people in many of these countries, and yes, I have seen it first hand.
What my Southern counterparts here would call “White trash,” those people who have a roof over their heads, a car, a pet, a television, a cell phone, cable TV, a refrigerator, and a microwave, a job, and in some cases, a government subsidy, would be a DREAM COME TRUE to many of the people I have happened to meet, so I wonder, why do you not see the United States as the greatest nation in the world?
To Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton and their ilk I would ask: if the blacks have it so bad, why stay here? Why not move to Africa? To the Muslim Clerics who freak out when someone ‘offends’ them in any which way, “Why stay? Why not move to Egypt, Syria, Iran, or France for that matter?” To all the illegal Mexicans here in our country, “Why don’t you go home?”
Why? because America is the GREATEST nation in the world, in my humble opinion.
And John, I *DO* want an answer, if you please… Don’t make a blanket statement without supporting material…
Finally, you call yourself a conservative, and ashamed to share my ideology… Well, um, John… I’m a conservative, and I’m concerned that you may be confusing ideology with principle… That last sentence makes me think you are a liberal. Liberals usually make blanket statements and resort to name calling… Conservatives take a stance on an issue and discuss…
I hope you will continue this discussion.
God Bless, and good night

Anthony-
I felt a hearty Amen would do as well (I thought your article said it all) but seeing as their is a John willing to debate the issue (as if there is an issue with your article) I will take a stance and discuss as I too am a proud conservative.
I like to keep my “circle” well rounded and invite all to my table. I do not limit my ideas or debates to those of a like mind. I have liberal friends, conservative friends, friends who could care less about what is going on, friends of all race, age, color, and creed. However many our disagreements, and their are many, one thing is always agreed upon: our country really aint that bad. True there are issues and problems with our system of government. This very article reads as such. But when you weigh out the good and the bad, well, our situation clearly could be alot worse.
I don’t understand John’s critique. It is not as if the author of this article is writing about a utopia free of tyranny and wrongdoing, but rather lays a foundation for belief in something so great it makes you want to fight in every way possible to make it as utopian as possible. This belief in something great the author speaks of is a belief in the basic sanctity and merits of America. The author himself adamantly admits there are obvious flaws. Hence the title of the article. John is not even debating the message of the article but a subset of the actual argument. It is a distraction to the discussion not a useful addition.

Anthony, I’m glad you’re angry, we ALL should be. But I think your framing of some of these issues is overly simplistic. Now, frankly I won’t claim to be qualified to address all of these issues. I know very little about farm bills, and energy security bills. But this mortgage crisis wasn’t solely caused by people buying homes they couldn’t afford. Millions bought homes they could afford, assuming they could count on their continued employment, and a consistent cost of living–but this economy couldn’t deliver either. So lets not be so quick to paint with a broad brush. Also, why do you oppose an increase in the GI Bill, how do you think your conservative war heroes (few though they may be) received a quality education–that upward mobility you cited in your defense of America the Great is largely because of the GI bill. Not just to the veterans, but then they have a better life, their children then have a better life, and so on. And speaking of your defense of America the Great, have you actually looked at the infant mortality rankings, there are like 30 countries that have lower infant mortality rates than the US. For as much wealth as this country has, that is appalling. You mentioned Scandinavia, all of Scandinavia well out ranks the US. So do Cuba and Cyprus, for that matter. No one is saying America isn’t Great, but lets not ignore its shortcomings. And please stop getting your facts from the Cato Institute, it really undercuts your credibility.
Comment by Anthony Navarro on 4 September 2008:
Hey Shak… thanks for your comment! I want to say first, that I appreciate your addressing your concerns in an open dialog. In political issues like this, many comments cannot be aired because they are venomous and don’t contribute to the conversation…
In regards to the mortgage crisis, I appreciate where you are coming from… one of my best friends, through no fault of his own, almost lost his home because his employer had to shut down. He pulled up his bootstraps, hit the proverbial pavement, and found a new job, but the concern was there, that he may have lost his home. What my article addressed was the ‘crisis’ caused by liberal legislation that enabled tens of thousands of people to over extend themselves with houses they should not have bought in the first place… Now, we can buy bad stocks and lose money, make bad business decisions and lose money, but for the U.S. taxpayer to have to bailout people who made bad six-figure purchasing decisions, that’s un-American, un-Fair, and un-Conscionable… Why should you, say, who pays your mortgage on time, be forced to pay (through taxation and legislation) for someone else’s bad debt? There are times indeed, where someone may lose a home… someone may lose a car… someone may lose out on a business deal, but that’s America for you: capitalism at work. There’s always another goal to shoot for without infringing on the freedom of others.
Regarding the G.I. bill: I have nothing against a G.I. bill in general. I believe wholeheartedly in supporting those who have served our country (my brother just finished his last year of GI-bill funded college. If you look at the paragraph above again, the “War funding bill” was funding anything BUT the war: farmers, Christmas trees, tourism, political conventions, and oh yeah… sheep! We all know how important a role the U.S. sheep is playing in Iraq! Baaaa!!!!!
Regarding the liberal claim that infant mortality (which I did not bring up) there are lies, damn lies, and statistics:
http://www.coyoteblog.com/coyote_blog/2008/08/why-does-the-us.html
And considering babies born in ‘progressive’ Canada, Germany, and Austria are not considered “living children” if they weigh less than kilogram I will take a higher mortality ’statistic’ if it means I value the life of a child any day.
And finally, regarding getting statistics from the Cato Institute… You know, I get criticized when I don’t give credit, and criticized when I do… so I’ll continue quoting so I don’t look uninformed, FWIW. And, as I like to say, they’re not “my” facts, … they’re just THE facts
Thanks again, and God Bless!!!
