Energy

The United States of America needs to become energy independent by exploring, drilling, and mining the resources found within her own borders.  There is no reason at all, aside from resistance from draconian environmental lobbyists, why the United States must import any petroleum products within the next twenty years.

New refineries must be built to refine America’s oil deposits. New clean, safe, nuclear power plants must be deployed in our cities. Clean coal fired power plants must be allowed to be built where such resources are plentiful.

Congress has repeatedly rejected proposals to open oil exploration in the ANWR oil reserve, have lobbied to shut down coal plants, and blocked the drilling of other oil fields within our own borders. On April 29, 2008, President George Bush gave what is perhaps his greatest speech on the issue, and he is dead right on all his points. Sadly, such points will not be addressed under his administration with a Democratic Congress. Congress must get out of they way and give Americans access to their own resources. Energy is plentiful, but is locked up in bureaucratic nonsense.

It’s true, that alternative energies should be encouraged and developed, but that should be left in the hands of the private sector, where American ingenuity reigns. If a technology is found that is feasible, deployable, and profitable, it will come to market on its own accord. If not, Taxpayers should not have to subsidize it. If an energy technology, or any policy has to be subsidized by government, it needs to be taken off the table.
